Competition: Jazz Summer at Hotel Bayerischer Hof

Great news for all jazz fans: from 16 to 20 July, the Jazz Sommer will be taking place at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof – and we’re giving away 20 exclusive guest list spots!

The Jazz Summer at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof has been taking place since 2006. It is the only international jazz festival in Munich! Under the motto “Loud & Proud”, Jazz Sommer 2024 recalls the roots of jazz as a music of liberation, resistance and empowerment. But it also reminds us that jazz doesn’t have to be a fun-free headache, but offers rousing entertainment for all the senses.

After the opening concert with the Al Di Meola Electric Quintet in the Festsaal (16 July, 7:30 pm), five concerts will take place in the Nightclub. And we’ll get you in!

We are giving away 2 x 2 guest list spots for each one of the five events in the Nightclub on Facebook and Instagram. Take part!

The events at the Nightclub Bayerischer Hof

16 July, 10 pm: Jacques Schwarz-Bart

Saxophonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart has been one of the outstanding saxophonists and composers on the New York jazz scene for almost 30 years. At Jazz Sommer, he will be presenting “Soné Ka La 2 – Odyssey” for the first time with an all-star band, the continuation of his very personal, brilliant combination of jazz with Zouk and Gwo-Ka music from Guadeloupe.

17 July, 9 pm: Malika Tirolien

Like Jacques Schwarz-Bart, the singer Malika Tirolien comes from the French overseas department of Guadeloupe, but has been living in Montreal, Canada, for more than 20 years. She mixes psychedelic synth pads with driving beats, amazing vocals with French Creole rap interludes, powerful female empowerment (“Sisters”) with the delicate setting of a religious poem (“Priere”) by her grandfather Guy Tirolien. A strong Creole personality.

18 July, 9 p.m.: China Moses

As the daughter of Dee Dee Bridgewater and the activist and film and television director Gilbert Moses, who sadly died young, China Moses grew up in Los Angeles and Paris and had everything she needed for a stage career: dazzling looks, extroversion and impulsiveness, ambition, show talent and, of course, vocal power.

19.07., 9 pm: Kennedy Administration

“I believe Kennedy Administration is going to be the next big star on the music scene”, says Gregory Porter. As you could already see at the beginning of her international career in the years before Corona – including as support for Elton John – at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, Kennedy Administration is definitely one of the most rousing and interesting representatives of the neo-soul jazz wave. At the Jazzsommer she will be performing pieces from her current album “Second Term” and a foretaste of her new album, which is expected to be released in winter.

20 July, 9 pm: Munich Special “Loud & Proud”

The grand finale of the jazz summer begins with a “Munich Special”, in which local musicians see jazz as empowerment. Perhaps Munich’s most grooving trio will be on stage as the basic rhythm section: keyboard wizard Matthias Bublath, bassist Peter Cudek and long-time Passport drummer and drum professor Christian Lettner. They will be accompanied by five energetic singing “special guests”: Eva Ahoulou, Norisha Campbell, Kaye-Ree, Karoline Weidt and last but not least multi-talented Ron Williams.
